Lately I’ve been craving a project that feels both practical and comforting — something simple, useful, and cozy from the very first stitch. Slippers felt like the perfect choice. There’s something so satisfying about knitting something that will be worn every single day — especially when it’s for someone you care about.
This pair is for my partner — a little handmade warmth for his feet, and hopefully a reminder that wool and love are a pretty good combination. He even picked the color himself: a deep, timeless charcoal grey that’s both classic and calm. The kind of slippers you reach for every morning without thinking. I’ll be making them with feltable wool, so they’ll turn out thick, cushy, and just the right shape after a bit of hot water and care.
🧶 The Yarn

For this project, I’m using Dale Garn Older – a 100% wool yarn that’s feltable, sturdy, and still soft enough for comfort. I chose a deep charcoal grey, which feels both warm and timeless — like something you’d always reach for at home.
This yarn felts beautifully, which makes it ideal for slippers that will shape to your feet over time. It’s durable but still has that rustic, cozy charm that I love in wool projects.
Dale Garn is a Norwegian yarn brand known for its quality and long knitting tradition. While it’s not widely available in the U.S., it’s sometimes possible to find it through online shops that offer international shipping — such as Wool Warehouse or Scandinavian Knitting Design in the UK
🧶Can’t Find Dale Garn? Try These Similar Yarns
If you’re outside of Norway and can’t get your hands on Dale Garn Older, don’t worry — there are plenty of great alternatives that will give you a similar result.
The key is to choose a 100% wool yarn that is not superwash-treated, so it will felt properly. You’ll also want something in a worsted weight, or close to it, for the right structure and warmth.

Here are a few yarns that work well for felting and are more widely available internationally:
Cascade 220 (non-superwash) – a classic, durable wool that felts beautifully. Easy to find in the U.S. and great for slipper projects.
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes – affordable, soft, and ideal for felting. Lots of colors to choose from.
Patons Classic Wool Worsted – often available in craft stores like Michaels or JoAnn, and felts reliably.
Rauma Vams – a Norwegian wool that’s rustic and warm, great for similar projects (available in some international shops).
Istex Léttlopi – slightly more textured, but works well for felting and gives a natural, wooly finish.
Each of these options has its own feel, but all are great for cozy, felted slipper projects like this one.
